Supervisor:
Under the general supervision of the Hospital Director, the Medical Director is responsible for medically directing patient care teams of wards heads/chiefs, trainers, physicians, mid-level providers, support/diagnostic services, and nurses.
Subordinates: Chiefs of Wards, Physicians.
Main Responsibilities:
Quality of Care.

- Responsible for the quality performance of medical staff in patient care, diagnosis, treatment and data recording and to coordinate pharmaceutical needs,
- Ensure effective processes and mechanisms are in place to encourage best practice to improve clinical outcomes and quality
- Lead all activities of quality improvements, lead quality improvement committee and ensure that all medical staff make efforts to improve the quality of services according to quality standards,
Monitoring and supervision.

- Develop and implement an efficient on going monitoring and supervision of all clinical and technical activities related to services delivery, carried out by all technical team of the hospital staff.
- Ensure the development and monitoring of patient outcomes,
- Ongoing supervision to manage and control the performance of the heads of wards (specialists), trainers and provide regular feedback and support on services delivery and PQI standards to each department,
- Ensure proper treatment of patients, including creating an atmosphere of respect for the dignity of patient and understanding that health care is basic individual right
- Monitor and incorporate into action plans patient and patient-family feedback,
- Supervising physicians and mid-levels; performing quality assurance activities,
Capacity building of the relevant staff;

- Initiate measures to build the capacity of staff through clinical conferences, on the job trainings, formal trainings and conduct regular morning reports,
- Promote a climate and develop mechanisms which ensure constant upgrading physicians’ skills,
- Establish and foster effective working relationships with and between the various professional groups within the hospitals.
Data management and performance review.

- To do proper planning for the achievement of the performance indicators and develop comprehensive planning for each department and units based on agreed upon targets.
- Develop system for monthly review of target against the set indicators and develop follow up planning.
- Do regular check and follow up of the data recording, patient files and ensure data is collected at all level and patient files are properly filled,
- Participate in regular management meetings as an active member of the hospital management team,
- Be part of the hospital technical boards and represent the technical activities of hospital at different levels,
Infection prevention, SOPs/Guidelines and other relevant aspects

- Ensure infection prevention and wastes management policies and guidelines are properly followed up by the relevant physicians, mid-level medical staff and support staff,
- Ensure implementation of MoPH policies and standards,
- Establishing linkage among different departments in the hospital i.e. OPDs, IPDs, pharmacy, dental care, radiology, laboratory and others to encourage positive support and patients flow,
- Assist the process of developing all relevant SOPs and guidelines,
- Encourage and support a positive work environment to ensure positive staff morale and quality services,
- Assist the Department Heads in the performance appraisal process for members of the medical staff,
- Reports on achievements, activities, challenges and problems to the Hospital Director.
Strengthening the decentralized ward management

- Developing a comprehensive planning for decentralized management of the wards
- Working with the chiefs of ward for taking more responsibility and authorization
- Working with HD and chief of wards on mechanisms how this system to be strengthened and to make the chiefs more responsible and authorized
