Job Purpose:
The Counselor for the Basic General Literacy project funded by UNESCO is responsible for the overall training efforts of the project with regard to counseling activities for students and project staff. The project intends to provide literacy opportunities for Afghans over 15 years previously excluded from education to have the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values they need to be productive, healthy, and responsible citizens prepared to contribute to the welfare of society and equipped for viable employment in the national market. This will be primarily achieved by building the capacity of literacy facilitators in the target districts. The following items are the main responsibilities of the counselor:
Job Responsibilities:
  • Professionals with a degree in psychology who will be hired to address both the psychological and social needs of learners and literacy facilitators
  • Ensure that learners and facilitators understand and appreciate their positional responsibilities
  • Work to establish a learner and child friendly environment for the literacy classes
  • Raise awareness among community members regarding the psychological safety of children
  • Make sure that adults left outside the formal education system are encouraged to attend literacy classes

 

Tasks of inter organizational relation

  • Promotes gender equality and non-discrimination with regard to ethnic, political and religious backgrounds.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars & conference organized by the education program/UNESCO and PED.
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of 4 years’ working experiences on similar positions of Education Program with national and international NGOs.
  • Bachelor Degree in Education, Social Sciences or Psychology (Master’s degree is preferred)
  • Excellent English, Pashto, and Dari reading, writing and verbal skills
  • Fluent English, Pashto, and Dari with excellent speaking and writing skills
  • The position will be based in Helmand with frequent travels to the districts.
